Back The Collector Series: Coming Home

Last Updated: March 20, 2023
Prologue Chester Bragg was coming home, to a place he had left 50 years prior when his wife and son were killed by a drunk driver. He couldn't bear to stay in the house that he and Maria had loved so and he buried himself in his work. Over the years, he had created the Emperor Mining Company in Mexico and South America. He was now 75 years old and his doctors had been hounding him to slow down. Five years ago, he had begun to dispose of his properties and, in doing so, had accumulated $4.5 Billion. He didn't know exactly what he was going to do. he feared boredom and worse, lonely nights. He had not set foot on the ranch he and Maria had built since that awful day when the Deputy came knocking on his door. Sycamore Springs Ranch was a 10,000 acre spread north of Tucson, Arizona. His boyhood friend, Pedro Garcia and his wife Bonita had watched over the place for him and had begged him for years to come home. Pedro and Bonita's 4 sons and Pedro's little brother, Santiago, ran the ranch with the help of 20 cowboys. He had wired them from Mexico City that he was finally coming home and he promised he would stay. He had retained his company airplane and Danny Shanks, his pilot, had flown him to Tucson, where he had bought a hanger in which to store the airplane. Pedro had sent a car to meet them and he and Danny were sitting comfortably in the back seat of a Ford Excursion with Pedro's youngest son, Tomas, driving and running commentary as they travelled out of the city. They passed through the small town of Catalina and turned at Oracle Junction. They would turn off the highway at Panther Canyon onto their own private road that would take them to the ranch.
